He will return to the game for the first time since Vasiliy Lomachenko lost to Teofimo Lopez. Lomachenko will face off with other lightweight player Masayoshi Nakatani at the Virgin Hotel in Las Vegas on June 26.

After losing to Lopez, Lomachenko underwent shoulder surgery. This is the second shoulder injury in Lomachenko’s career. After Lopez’s fight, Lomachenko said that he was unable to throw away the right lead hook due to injuries.

Nakatani is a solid fighter, one of the only people who have experienced meaningful moments of victory with Lomachenko-defeating Lopez and losing a competitive decision in 2019. After that defeat, Nakagu was ineffective for more than a year, until the game against Felix Verdejo in December 2020, where he returned from two knockout rounds and received a ninth round stoppage.

Lomachenko hopes to return to the top of the lightweight division that has suddenly piled up, and hopes to re-match Lopez, who now wins the WBA, WBO and IBF championships with a weight of 135 pounds.

The card is set to broadcast live on ESPN. The June 26 date has already had another battle, because Gervonta “Tank” Davis will meet Mario Barrios on the Showtime pay-per-view show that night.
