One of the best boxers in the world will return to victory this weekend, when Vasily Lomachenko will return to the ring to face Nakatani. The event was held on Saturday at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas10pm EST, ESPN+).
Lomachenko (14-2, 10 KO) will compete for the first time after losing to Teofimo Lopez in October last year. The loss caused Lomachenko to lose the WBA and WBO lightweight titles because the department has completely entered a youth sport that seems to be leaving Lomachenko withdrew from most conversations in the biggest potential battle 135 pounds.
Although many people have turned their attention to Lopez, Gwenta Davis, Devin Hani and Ryan Garcia, if Lomachenko wins the victory against Mid Valley, he is still very likely to rejoin Lopez. Match.
This battle is not a gentle path back to the battle for Lomachenko. Nakatani (19-1, 13 KO) is a tall and powerful fighter. Despite losing on the scorecard, he caused considerable trouble to Lopez in the 2019 game. In his most recent outing, Mid Valley picked himself off the floor twice in the ninth round to eliminate Felix Wildejo.
Nakatani will become a bigger person on the night of battle, with a height advantage of nearly 5 inches, and being more natural at the light weight. Many people—though not Lomachenko’s people—are talking about the fact that as Lomachenko moves towards the latter part of his career, returning to 130 pounds will be the best career move. How the battle with Nakatani proceeds will show whether this idea makes sense.
Top Rank’s Bob Arum instead stated that Lomachenko focuses on lightweight big names, which shows that in addition to Lopez’s rematch, it is possible to play against Davis and Hani.
“Obviously, if Lomachenko wins, he doesn’t want to wait,” Arum said Fighting the hype“Lomachenko just wants to play the best, who is the best? Maybe it’s Devin Hani, maybe it’s Davis Tank. I mean, Loma will think that both of them are huge challenges, of course we I want to participate in those competitions. But again, it takes two people to Tango.”

prophecy
Nakatani has the physical conditions and mentality that make Lomachenko tough, that’s for sure. However, Lomachenko may be his own worst enemy entering the battle. He can’t give up the first half of the game like he did against Lopez. He will spend a round or two to try to find the angle and the right way to confront Nakatani. Once he has some information, Lomachenko needs to apply it and start using his world-class skills to open and pile up rounds, because it seems unlikely that he will be suspended under any circumstances other than the referee’s swelling.
