Unmukt Chand becomes the first Indian male cricketer to play in Australia’s Big Bash T20 league. The right-handed batsman made his debut for the Melbourne Renegades against the Hobart Hurricanes on Tuesday.
Chand was unable to contribute with the bat, scoring just six points on eight balls, although his team lost six points a half century later from captains Aaron Finch (75) and Shaun Marsh (51).

The former India U-19 World Cup winner is part of the Indian domestic system of Delhi and the Indian Premier League. He represented Delhi Daredevil, Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians.
He was also captain of the India A team, but his career did not progress to the senior level. He announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket in August 2021 to qualify for overseas leagues.
Among Indian women’s cricketers, Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Poonam Yadav, Richa Ghosh, Shafali Verma, Radha Yadav and Jemimah Rodrigues are part of the women’s BBL.
