Roger Federer “unsure” of the state of the US Open due to knee injury

Tennis superstar Roger Federer has had a challenging 2020 and it will continue into his 2021. After two knee surgeries, Federer, who turned 40 in early August this year, only participated in 13 games this year and withdrew from a few games to rest, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Now, as the US Open approaches, the question of whether Federer is ready to play in New York is being closely watched. When talking about this, Federer said that as he prepares to meet with doctors and the team, his status in the Open is still up in the air.

“For now, everything is still a bit uncertain,” Federer told AFP. “Before (my injury) was different. The question is simple: What is my position in the rankings? What will my next game be? Today is even harder: How do I feel when I start training again? My What is the goal? How to reconcile all this with the family? What do the other members of the team say?

“I’m much more enthusiastic than before, and my attitude is different. It’s really completely different from 10 years ago.”

Federer’s last game was at Wimbledon in June, and he became the oldest man ever to reach the quarterfinals. He eventually lost to Hubert Hecates.

Since then, Federer not only withdrew from the Olympics, but also withdrew from the ATP Toronto and Cincinnati Masters.

If he is physically ready to participate in the U.S. Open, Federer will have the opportunity to withdraw from the Grand Slam tiebreaker with contemporary Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, who have won both in their careers. 20 championships were won.
