The African Football Confederation (CAF) has announced that Rwandan referee Salima Mukansanga will lead the all-female line-up of match officials in the Africa Cup of Nations match between Guinea and Zimbabwe on Tuesday.
It will be the first time that only women will preside at Africa’s flagship international championship.

Mukansanga will be in charge with Assistant Carine Atemzabong from Cameroon and Fatiha Jermoumi from Morocco. The video assistant referee will be another Moroccan, Bouchra Karboubi. Mukansanga was the fourth official to be involved in the January 10 clash between Guinea and Malawi.
“She (Mukansanga) has had to overcome serious hurdles to get to this level and she deserves a lot of credit,” CAF referee chief Eddy Maillet said in a statement.
“This moment belongs not only to Salima, but to every young girl in Africa who loves football and sees herself as a future referee.”
