Rafael Nadal announced on Monday that he has tested positive for COVID-19. This is after Nadal returned to Spain after participating in the Mubadala World Tennis Championships exhibition match in Abu Dhabi a few days ago.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion said that he is dealing with some “unpleasant moments” related to the virus, but hopes he will get better soon.

“I want to announce that when I returned home after participating in the Abu Dhabi Championship, I tested positive for COVID in the PCR test I performed on my arrival in Spain,” Nadal tweeted.

Nadal also said that his test result in Abu Dhabi was negative and even tested negative on Friday.

“Because of this situation, my schedule must be completely flexible. I will analyze my options based on my development. I will keep you informed of any decisions about my future tournaments.”

The Abu Dhabi game was Nadal’s first game after dealing with a left foot injury. The injury forced the Spanish star to withdraw from the U.S. Open 10 days before the Grand Slam tournament. In addition to the US Open, Nadal was also forced to miss the Tokyo Olympics.

His position at the Australian Open, which is scheduled to begin on January 17, is now up in the air.
