The Pakistani selectors took a break on Thursday with some senior players, including former captain Shau Abu Malik and Safaraz Ahmed, who will play a limited home series against the West Indies later this month.

In addition to Malik and Safaraz, fast bowler Hasan Ali and spinning all-rounder Ima De Vasim will not be part of the 2020 and One Day international teams.

Chief Selection Officer Mohamed Wasim said the players need to rest.

“We have been playing T20Is since October and now there is a very stable and balanced aspect, so we decided to let Imad, Sarfaraz and Malik rest,” Wasim said in a press release from the Pakistan Cricket Committee.

The young fast bowler Mohamed Hasnein returned to the team after missing the 2020 World Cup and the series in Bangladesh.

The West Indies will participate in three Twenty20 international competitions (December 13, 14 and 16) in Karachi, followed by the same number of one-day international competitions (December 18, 20 and 22).
