After England was deducted five points for failing to pass Australia’s requirements in the first Ashes Test, England has talked with officials to speed up the game.
After taking into account the time allowance, Joe Root’s team was ruled to be five points short of Gabba’s nine wicket defeats, and match referee David Boone, the former Australian Test opener, imposed sanctions.

Players who fail to bowl within the specified time will be fined 20% of the game cost, and the team will be fined one point for each time too short.
“The most hurtful thing is to test the championship points,” England coach Chris Silverwood told the British media.
“It hit the lads, but what really benefits us is the points, because we are competing to reach the finals.
“We have worked with the referees to tackle areas where we can improve.
“This is our first test in a while. We haven’t participated in a warm-up match yet, so these people are not used to walking around all the time. It’s hot outside.”
Australia was deducted points for speeding in the second test against India in Melbourne, and therefore missed the first World Trade Center final in July.
