Ravichandran Ashwin surpassed Harbhajan Singh’s 417 test wickets with his 418th scalp and became India’s third wicket in the test.
Ashwin, who ranked second in the ICC men’s bowling test rankings, achieved a milestone on the fifth day of the first test match held in Kanpur in India and New Zealand with the wicket of New Zealand player Tom Latham. Earlier on the fourth day of Sunday’s match, Ashwin and Wil Young’s wicket tied Habajan’s goals.
The legendary leg spinner Anil Kumble led India’s wickets with 619 wickets in the test, followed by all-rounder Kapil Dev with 434.
The closed spinner also became the fifth tallest wicket in the format spinner, behind Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath, who ranked fourth with 433 wickets.
