After a disastrous World Cup campaign in the UAE, no Indian players were featured in the global agency’s ODI team of the year, with two players from the Irish Minnows, after being unrepresented in the ICC’s men’s T20 team of the year.
By the way, the team also doesn’t have any Australian, England, New Zealand or West Indies players.
The team, captained by Pakistan’s Babar Azam, has two Pakistanis, including Farhar Zaman.
South Africans Janneman Malan and Rassie van der Dussen, Bangladeshis Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman and Mushfiqur Rahim, who are also designated wicketkeepers, Sri Lankans Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera and Irish Paul Stirling and Simi Singh make up the other members of the team.

India has played 6 ODIs in 2021, winning 4 and losing 2.
The two 50-plus series it played were at home against England, which it won 2-1, and the other was an away clash against Sri Lanka in the island nation, which it also won by the same margin.
The issue of failing to pick Indian players in the XI has more to do with lack of play than poor performance.
The only Indian player to have played in all ODIs in 2021 is veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan, who has scored 297 runs in six matches.
The likes of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma have only played three ODIs in 2021, as have the bowlers, who have also not played six overs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has nine wickets in five of these six games.
To be in the squad of the year, there must be enough impactful performances to get points that the Indians don’t have.

Ireland’s Sterling, for example, has scored a whopping 705 times in 14 ODIs in 2021 with an average of 79.66, making him an automatic selection.
Proteas opener Janneman scored 509 runs in eight games, an average of nearly 85 runs.
Babar, who had the fewest appearances among the 11 players, had 405 runs in six games with 200, while Zaman had 369 runs for the year.
At the middling level, Rassie van der Dussen is averaging 57 runs in 2021 and 342 in eight games, while Shakib is impressive as an all-rounder with 277 runs and 17 wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim had over 400 runs and stumps and catches, while Wanindu Hasaranga scored 356 and picked 12 wickets.
Two walkers Mustafizur Rahman and Dushmantha Chameera had 18 and 20 wickets respectively, while non-spinner Simi had 19 scalps to be commended.
