Hafeez withdraws from Pakistan’s T20 series in Bangladesh

Pakistani mid-range batsman Mohamed Hafiz has withdrawn from the three Twenty20 series to be held in Bangladesh next month.

The Pakistan Cricket Committee said on Monday that Hafez, who starred in the ongoing T20 World Cup, hopes to give marginal batsmen the opportunity to “perform and gain international experience and exposure.”

He was replaced by Iftikhar Ahmed in good form, who missed the T20 World Cup. Pakistan’s three World Cup reserves-Usman Kadir, Shanawaz Dahani and Kushdir Shah-are also on the 18-man squad.

The three-game series will begin in Dhaka on December 19.

Two test matches will be held after the T20 series, and the team will be named later.

Pakistan hired Sakran Mushtaq as interim coach, and South Africa bowling consultant Vernon Filand will remain with the Bangladesh team until the first test.
