Bayern CEO Rummenigge firmly believes that despite the presence of Juventus star Ronaldo and Barcelona icon Messi, the striker is the best.
He says Virtual Poland: “He won the FIFA award for the best FIFA player, so to me, the situation is obvious.
“Okay, many great talents have emerged in world football, such as Kelian Mbappé. Despite this, Robert Lewandowski is currently the best football player in the world.
“I think he is currently better than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.”
Can Lewandowski break another Bundesliga record?
If the Poland international finds a goal in Saturday’s game against Augsburg, they can break the record for the most goals scored by Bayern’s great Gerd Muller in a Bundesliga campaign.
Muller set the record in 1970 and then set it again in 1973, but Lewandowski could knock him down with a goal in the final game of the season.
Rummenigge said: “I will tell you the truth. When Gerd Muller scored 40 goals in 1972, I firmly believed that this feat would never be defeated.”
“I’m absolutely sure of this, and I haven’t changed my mind for many years because…I didn’t have to. But then Robert showed up, and we have seen something unique, because even flattening Gelder’s record is so impressive incredible.
“This is crazy! But I firmly believe that Robert will score 41 on Saturday. His friends will definitely help him, and we will witness historic events.
“I’m very fortunate to have played with Gerd Muller for five years. He is amazing. There are zero chances and he can score two goals. He scores alive. Robert is different. He is more like a team player and more involved. During the game, the team beat Gerd, who is the king of the penalty area.
“So, from a pure football perspective, Robert has a lot to do, but both are great legends. I am very happy to have a good relationship with them.”
He added: “I remember seven years ago, we fought for him. Yes, it was a struggle, it was an uphill struggle, because there were many strong competitors, such as Real Madrid.
“Maybe some people, even Robert, don’t believe that Bayern will win the Champions League. [and help him] Become the best scorer in the world.
“But I fully remember the scene after our last victory in Lisbon. Robert was sitting on the court next to me. He even cried with excitement. Obviously, he told me how happy he was to be so strong. Bayern has realized its football dream.”
