The draw ceremony for next year’s championship was originally scheduled to be held in the host country Cameroon on June 25.
Due to “coronavirus-related logistics”, the African Football Federation (Caf) announced the postponement of the draw for the 2022 African Cup of Nations.
After the qualifying round in March, 24 countries confirmed the tournament to be held in Cameroon next year. The group stage draw is scheduled to be held in the host country on June 25.
However, after the local organizing committee of Cameroon accepted Caf’s request for rescheduling, qualified teams must now wait for the new date to know their fate in the game.

“At the request of Caf, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) in Cameroon has agreed to postpone the draw for the 2021 Cameroon African Cup of Nations final due to logistical reasons related to the Covid-19 pandemic,” the statement on the Caf website reads.
“The draw was originally scheduled for June 25, 2021, and the new date will be announced in due course.
“Caf continues to work with its partners, the Cameroonian government and LOC, with the goal of making the 2021 Cameroon Africa Cup of Nations a successful event and a grand celebration of African football.”
The 2022 Africa Cup of Nations will start from January 9th to February 6th, when matches will be held in six stadiums in five cities in Cameroon.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the biennial competition has been transferred twice before Caf decided to hold it in January 2022.
Cameroon initially designated the competition to be held between June and July 2021, but due to climatic conditions, it was changed to January/February two years ago.
Just last month, due to the “challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic,” the African football governing body once again postponed the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers from this month to September.
Algeria defeated Senegal 1-0 in the Africa Cup final held in Egypt in 2019 and became the defending African champion.
