Townsend recounted the team’s reaction to Eze’s injury update-he described this day as a sad day.
“This may be one of the saddest days of my career. At 11 am, the manager (Roy Hodgson) called us together and told us,’This is his last season and I decided to leave.'” Townsend talkSPORT.
“So we were all stuck in training, and then half an hour later, we were ten minutes away from the end of the training. It was an easy training. Eze had turned around and you heard a loud noise.
“He fell to the ground. He thought someone kicked him. We all thought someone kicked him because it sounded like that. When he turned around and found no one around him, the shock started, as you know.
“The shock on his face when he ruptured his Achilles tendon. When I went to bed at night, I thought of this young player. He may be my closest partner since joining the club. We really helped each other to make him suffer such a serious injury. , Really sad.”
The England international further revealed that before Gareth Southgate announced his 33-man provisional roster on Tuesday, Eze received a text message from the English Football Association about his first invitation to the Three Lions.
“As soon as he entered the locker room and turned on his phone, there was news from England that he was in the provisional lineup,” he said.
“This aggravated his pain, and many of us shed tears. What a sad day.
“He has now undergone the operation and I hope he will get better. I know what kind of player he is and his character, and he will come back strong.”
