Former England all-rounder Paul Collingwood was named as the team’s interim head coach on Monday for a three-match Test tour in the West Indies next month.
Assistant coach Collingwood replaces Chris Silverwood, who was sacked after last week’s 4-0 Ashes defeat in Australia.
Collingwood, 45, was in charge of England’s T20I tour of the West Indies last month and is currently resting in Barbados but will join the players when they arrive in Antigua on February 25.

“I am really delighted to be leading the Test team on the Caribbean trip,” he said in a statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
“I can’t wait to get started. A challenging Test series against the West Indies directly behind the Ashes disappointment gives us the chance to reset and rebuild from now on.
“Playing a Test match for England is the highest honour in the game. My aim is to provide players with clarity, direction and encouragement to start building something special.
“I’ve spoken to (captain) Joe Root and (deputy-captain) Ben Stokes and they are both excited and enthusiastic to lead the team through this new cycle. Easy, but they have the will and the courage to do things differently to make sure the team can thrive.”
Collingwood has played 68 Tests, 197 one-day internationals and 36 T20Is for England.
The Tour lineup will be announced later this week. The first test in Antigua began on March 1.
