After facing defeat in the Test series against Australia, Pakistan is facing New Zealand in a five-match T20 series. But apart from cricket, the Pakistan Cricket Board is undergoing a lot of troubles. After the World Cup 2023, the board and even the cricket team went through a lot of changes. Some major changes happened in the past few months. Now a new shocking change happened in Pakistani cricket.
Trouble in Pakistan Cricket:
Once upon a time, Pakistan was a terror in the cricket world. The opponent teams are used to being scared of their fast bowling. They had the best bowling unit in the cricket world. But with time, it started being blunt. In recent times, the team has been facing troubles in various ways. Currently, the team is struggling to register a win in an ongoing series.
In the Asia Cup and the World Cup, they didn’t play well. In the World Cup, they bid goodbye to the tournament from the group stage. On that big stage, they struggled to register wins. After that, major changes happened in their cricket board and team. Skipper Babar Azam stepped down from captaincy. Shan Masood was appointed as the Test captain and Shaheen Afridi took charge of the white-ball cricket. The cricket board went through a whole new setup.
Zaka Ashraf Resigns:
Even after so many changes, Pakistan failed to be on the winning side in the recent series. In the Test series against Australia, they got whitewashed. Even in the New Zealand series, they are behind by a 4-0 margin. In between those troubles, a major change happened in the Pakistan Cricket Board. Zaka Ashraf has stepped down from the Chairman post of PCB.
Zaka Ashraf, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has resigned from his position. He made this announcement after leading a managing committee meeting in Lahore on Friday. His resignation will be submitted to the respected Patron Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.
Ashraf became the PCB chairman in July last year, succeeding Najam Sethi. This marks his second term in the position. In this period, Pakistan didn’t perform well in the Asia Cup and the World Cup and lost the Test series against Australia by a massive 3-0 margin. Unfortunately, his recent tenure is viewed as one of the most challenging periods in Pakistan Cricket history.
