England and Australia faced each other in the Women’s World Cup final on Sunday (April 3) at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. After being invited to bat first, Australia rode on a record-breaking innings from Alyssa Healy who smashed 170 runs off just 138 balls with 26 fours to propel them to 356 runs for the loss of five wickets in 50 overs.
No wonder England bowlers were frustrated with Healy’s assault and it was evident in the 39th over of the innings as well. Katherine Brunt was bowling the over with Australia completely dominating the proceedings. She was unhappy with herself having conceded a boundary off the first ball.

She finished the over with a poor delivery as well spraying down the leg-side to Beth Mooney. The batter didn’t need any invitation to guide the ball for a four past the wicketkeeper Amy Jones.
Brunt was visibly disappointed and cursed herself saying, “Why’d you f*cuking bowl that ball.” The video of the same has gone viral on social media. It was overall a poor over from Brunt as she conceded 12 runs when her team needed her to bowl a tight one given the circumstances.

A day to forget for England bowlers
Katherine Brunt, much like England’s other bowlers, endured a poor day on the field. She conceded 69 runs off her 10-over spell and didn’t pick a single wicket. Rather, apart from Anya Shrubsole, none of the England bowlers conceded less than 6.9 runs per over. Even the world’s best bowler Sophie Ecclestone wasn’t spared as she went for 71 runs in her spell. However, she was the one to break the opening stand of 160 runs dismissing Rachel Haynes.

Shrubsole, England’s hero in the last World Cup final, showcased her excellent skills yet again picking up three wickets for just 46 runs in her 10 overs. She also dismissed Alyssa Healy at the fag end of the innings limiting the damage to some extent. Even Then, Australia posted a mammoth total of 356 runs on the board.
