Why is Quinton de Kock not playing today?

The third game of the Indian Premier League is set to be played between KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants and David Warner-led Delhi Capitals. Delhi Capitals have won the toss and decided to bowl first in the second game of today’s doubleheader. However, the match has been marred by the absence of several big players in both teams.

Quinton de Kock missing

On March 31 and April 2, the South African cricket team is set to play two crucial 50-over matches against the Netherlands as part of the ICC World Cup qualifiers. These games are of significant importance to the Proteas as they will determine whether or not they qualify for the upcoming World Cup. As a result, Quinton de Kock, one of South Africa’s top players, will have to prioritize these matches over his commitments to the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Even though Lucknow Super Giants could have used the services of Quinton de Kock for their opening game, the batter had to miss the game due to national duty. LSG have played West Indies batter Kyle Mayers instead of de Kock who will open the innings with LSG captain KL Rahul. In de Cock’s absence, Nicholas Pooran will don the Gloves behind the stumps.

Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje absent too

Lucknow Super Giants aren’t the only team that have been affected by South African players’ national commitments. Delhi Capitals too are missing the services of two of their prominent fast bowlers, Lungi Ngidi, and Anrich Nortje. With the South African team’s World Cup Qualification on the line, de Kock and his fellow teammates have chosen to prioritize their national duties over their club commitments.

Delhi are entering the game with 5 Indian bowlers in the form of Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Chetan Sakariya, Khaleel Ahmed, and Mukesh Kumar. Mukesh Kumar is making his IPL debut after impressing everyone in the domestic circuit.
