Why Beth Monny is not playing today’s WPL match against UP Warriorz

Beth Mooney is not able to participate in today’s match for Gujarat Giants against the UP Warriorz. Her deputy Sneh Rana confirmed the news at the toss. Mooney, who injured her ankle yesterday night, won’t be participating in the game tonight.

Sneh Rana said

Sneh Rana confirmed the news that the Australian star is not able to play due to injury. Sneh said, “We are waiting for that (Mooney’s injury) from the physio. We are going to bat first. It’s a used pitch. We have three changes in the team. Dunkley, Monika and Kim come in. We have discussed a lot of thing, looking forward to this game. Need to come stronger.”

Yesterday’s injury

The Giants do not appear to be having a good time as the team continues to experience injury concerns. Beth Mooney, the captain of the Giants, had to leave the field during the first over after what seemed to be an ankle injury. On the third ball she faced, when she appeared to have twisted her ankle, the tragedy happened. Mooney instantly stopped playing and requested assistance from the physician.

Mooney was lifted off the ground by the medical team out of concern for her safety and sent immediately to an ambulance that was waiting nearby. She is thought to have been brought to a hospital for additional assessment, which most likely included a scan to determine the severity of the damage.

Mooney played the role of team captain for the Giants and also accounted for the majority of their runs scored. The loss of Mooney might be a major setback for the Gujarat-based team, who already struggled with an unbalanced roster.

Deandra Dottin, a Caribbean all-rounder, had to withdraw from the WPL earlier due to some medical issues. She was a member of the Gujarat Giants team as well. The Giants’ first task would likely be to choose a captain from among the available players who could effectively lead the team and, ideally, guide them to the knockout rounds.
