Usman Khawaja, who was born in Islamabad, Pakistan, is one of the few Australian Muslims to represent his adoptive country on the international stage.
Khawaja’s beliefs in Islam did not allow him to drink alcohol, so he was initially unable to celebrate with Cummins on the podium of the Ashes’ 4-0 win over England.
But in one beautiful moment, Cummins asked his teammates to suspend the champagne celebrations and asked Khawaja, affectionately known as “Uzzie” in the locker room, to join them on the platform and soak up the atmosphere.
It might be a small move, but it’s what makes Pat Cummins great. He realized that Khawaja had to drink because of the wine, and corrected the wine. pic.twitter.com/GNVsPGJhfK

Ashes 2021-22 saw Khawaja make a strong return to Australia’s Test XI in SCG’s fourth Test. His two-hundred-off test in the draw to announce his return makes a strong case for his winter tour of Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The elegant southpaw has now scored 3,142 of 46 Tests in Australia with an average score of 42.45, including 10 hundred and 14 half-century.
