Yuzvendra Chahal had every chance of becoming the first bowler to pick up a hat-trick in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The tweaker didn’t do anything wrong on his part, but didn’t get support from the fielder. In the first ball of the 16th over during Mumbai Indians’ (MI) run-chase on Saturday, Chahal trapped Singapore’s Tim David plumb in front.
David used up a Decision Review System (DRS) referral, more in hope than conviction. In the end, it was a marginal call and the right-handed batter had to walk back to the pavilion. In the very next ball, Daniel Sams went for an almighty heave on the leg-side, but couldn’t time the ball to perfection.
Jos Buttlerwho scored a 68-ball century award earlier, took a diving catch at the deep mid-wicket region. Murugan Ashwin was on strike in Chahal’s hat-trick delivery. Chahal bowled a delivery that skidded through and the batter tried to play a defensive stroke, but found a thick outside edge.

The ball went at a fair speed at Karun Nair, who was positioned at first slip. Nair juggled the ball once before it went on ground. Chahal had his hands on head as he missed out on the milestone. Ashwin, meanwhile, got a lifeline during the fag end of MI’s run-chase.
The drop catch didn’t cost Rajasthan Royals (RR) much as Sanju Samson, the RR skipper, ran Ashwin out in the penultimate over of the game.

The Royals started their campaign in IPL 2022 with a resounding win over Kane Williamson’s Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Samson and Co. registered their second win over MI by 23 runs at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. Buttler’s ton helped RR post a mammoth score of 193 for eight on the board.

Shimron Hetmyer also played a handy cameo of 35 off 14 with three fours and as many sixes. Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma scored half-centuries, but their efforts went in vain. The onus was on Kieron Pollard in the death overs, but the required rate kept climbing up at an alarming rate.
