Fast bowler Umran Malik and left-handed batter Nicholas Pooran faced off in a one-over challenge during a net session of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). But they didn’t opt for the expertise they were chosen for by the franchise.
While Malik donned the gloves and helmet, Pooran decided to bowl left-arm spin. Malik, who’s known for his sheer pace, challenged Pooran that he will smash the West Indies cricketer for fours and sixes.

“I’m going to smash your one over for fours and sixes,” Malik said. While aggreging to the challenge, Pooran asked Malik the nature of delivery he’d want to face. “One over? Come,” Pooran replied. “ What do you want me to bowl, off-spin?” he added.
However, Jammu and Kashmir’s Malik left the style of bowling to Pooran. “Off-spin, leg-spin your choice,” Malik said.
Pooran bowled a half-tracker and Malik used his feet to send the ball over the long-on boundary for a colossal six. Malik found the middle of the bat and the ball went miles into the night-sky.

The Sunrisers didn’t make the greatest starts to the ongoing edition of the T20 league. On March 29, Rajasthan Royals defeated them by 61 runs at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Malik had a decent day with the ball as he picked up the important wickets of Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal.
Buttler could have got out on a duck, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s no-ball gave him a reprieve. Pooran had a terrible outing with the bat as he failed to open his account off nine balls. Left-arm fast bowler Trent Boult, who joined the Royals from the Mumbai Indians (MI), dismissed the Caribbean batter.
The Sunrisers were once reduced to 78 for six in 15.4 overs. Aiden Markram and Washington Sundar put on 55 runs for the seventh wicket to give SRH’s score some sort of respectability. Sundar threw his batting around four a 14-ball knock of 40.
Markram stayed unbeaten on 57 off 41 with five fours and two sixes. SRH are next set to face the Lucknow Super Giants on April 4.
