WATCH: Shivam Dube smokes Kagiso Rabada for two monster sixes; Matthew Hayden compares him to Yuvraj Singh

It wasn’t the best of games for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Punjab Kings (PBKS). In match number 11 of this Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, they lost by 54 runs. Shivam Dube was their only bright spot in the batting department as he struck 57 off 30 balls in game where none of his other teammates even crossed 25.

CSK started well with the ball as they got two early wickets. However, Liam Livingstone’s assault (60 off 32 balls) put Punjab back on track but CSK recovered well in the second half to restrict them to 180/8. The defending champions conceded only 71 runs in the last 10 overs.

But their performance with the bat let them down big time. CSK lost four wickets inside the powerplay and a total of five in the first eight overs as they were reduced to 36/5. Dube walked out to bat at No. 6 (at 23 /4) and somewhat kept CSK in the hunt when he was out in the middle. The left-hander kept getting the boundaries regularly even as the asking rate constantly jumped.

In the 14th over of the run-chase, the required run rate had gone past 15. But Dube smoked two back to back sixes off Kagiso Rabada to keep CSK’s hopes alive. And they were meagre sixes. Dube backed a punch and sent them a long way.

Rabada missed the yorker on the third ball of the 14th over and Dube took full advantage of that. He powered it over long-on for a massive 97-metre six. The South African pacer changed it up on the next delivery as he rolled his fingers across the ball but the length didn’t change and neither did the result. Dube smashed an 89-metre six straight down the ground. Even MS Dhoni was impressed by those two sixes.

In fact, former Australian cricketer and current commentator Matthew Hayden even compared him to the legendary Yuvraj Singh.“He reminds you a bit of Yuvraj Singh, doesn’t he? Tall, long levers, clean bat-swing,” Hayden asked on-air. But Harsha Bhogle promptly replied that they should probably look at the similarities between Hayden and Dube as both of them are tall left-handers.

After those two sixes, Dube took a single and reached his half-century which came off just 26 balls. However, he was dismissed in the very next over as CSK fell to 98/6. CSK could muster up only 28 more runs after Dube’s dismissal as they slumped to their third consecutive third match in this 2022 edition.
