WATCH: Rohit Sharma’s tame dismissal in the clash against Rajasthan Royals

Mumbai Indians’ (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma got off to a rather loose stroke in the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Saturday, April 2 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. After Sanju Samson’s RR set MI a target of 194 to chase down, the onus was on the 34-year-old Rohit to take his team off to a steady start.

He got off the mark with a single off Prasidh Krishna in the very first ball he faced. Afterwards, Krishna dished out a short delivery down the leg-side and Rohit collected a six through the fine-leg region. But in the penultimate ball of the over, Krishna got his revenge.

He pinned Sharma, who was looking to tee off from the word go. Prasidh bowled a short and wide delivery outside the off-stump and Rohit’s eyes lit up on seeing it. On most days, Sharma would cut the ball through the point region to fetch a boundary.

But this time around, the rub of the green didn’t go Rohit’s way. The batter slashed hard at the ball, but couldn’t find enough elevation, although he timed it to perfection. Riyan Parag, who was patrolling the backward point region , took a simple catch.

Rohit scored 41 in MI’s opening game against Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday, but failed to make an impact against Samson and Co.

As far as the game was concerned, Rohit and Co lost it by 23 runs. It was also their second defeat on the trot after the one against the Capitals. After opting to bowl first, MI bowlers strained as the Royals amassed a massive score of 193 for eight on the board.

Jos Buttler scored a 68-ball 100, laced with 11 fours and five sixes to destroy the MI attack. Jasprit Bumrah and Tymal Mills picked up three wickets apiece, but failed to stop the RR batters.

Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma scored half-centuries in the run-chase, but MI could only get up to 170 for eight. Yuzvendra Chahal and Navdeep Saini got two wickets apiece for RR.

Kishan, in the meantime, snatched the Orange Cap from Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) Andre Russell.
