WATCH: Ravindra Jadeja’s first reaction to being appointed CSK skipper

Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) Ravindra Jadeja understands that he has a massive task of carrying forward the legacy set by MS Dhoni in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ahead of the 2022 IPL, Dhoni passed the team’s captaincy baton to Jadeja, who has been an integral part of the franchise for the last few seasons.

Jadeja has only become the third player to lead the Super Kings in the cash-rich T20 tournament. Prior to the mega auction, the four-time IPL champions retained him along with Dhoni and England all-rounder Moeen Ali.

The Saurashtra-born all-rounder said that he has very little to worry about since he will consult his “go-to person”, Dhoni, in case of any queries.

“Feeling good, but I also know I need to fill in the big boots. I need to carry forward the legacy set by Mahi bhai. I don’t need to worry too much because he is here. If I have any questions, I will definitely go to him and he’ll be my go-to person. I am not worried too much. Thank you for your wishes , keep supporting us,” Jadeja was quoted as saying.

Earlier it was learned that the 40-year-old Dhoni decided to appoint Jadeja as the skipper of the Super Kings. The Jharkhand-born Dhoni, however, will continue his association with CSK as a player.

“MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team,” an official release from CSK said.

“Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond,” the release added.

Dhoni bowed out of the IPL with 121 wins from 204 matches as captain. Apart from the Super Kings, he also led the defunct Rising Pune Supergiant in the 2016 edition of the T20 tournament.

The Super Kings are set to start their campaign on Saturday, March 26 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), led by Shreyas Iyerat the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

CSK are the defending champions after they defeated the Knights in the final of the IPL 2021 in October last year at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
