WATCH: Ravi Bishnoi’s direct hit sends Ruturaj Gaikwad packing | IPL 2022

Ruturaj Gaikwad came into the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) on the back of some impressive knocks for Maharashtra in the 2021-22 Vijay Hazare Trophy. In fact, he was the leading run-scorer in the 50-overs domestic competition. However, the right-hander hasn’t made the greatest of starts to the ongoing edition of the IPL.

The Orange Cap winner of IPL 2021 fetched a four-ball duck in Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) opening game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Umesh Yadav got rid of the big fish for a golden duck. Gaikwad found an outside-edge and Nitish Rana took a simple catch in the slip cordon.

Gaikwad had an outing to forget even against the Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday, March 31 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. He got off the mark with a single off Dushmantha Chameera in the second over, but he couldn’t survive for long in the middle.

Fast bowler Andrew Tye pinned Gaikwad in front, but the on-field umpire gave the batter not out. During this while, Gaikwad tried to pinch a single without knowing where the ball had gone.

Ravi Bishnoi, in the meantime, showed a great presence of mind. The Young Turk threw down the stumps from the backward point region and caught Gaikwad well short of the crease. The Super Giants were delighted after the dismissal.

Despite Gaikwad’s early wicket, the Super Kings got off to a flying start in the game. After being put into bat first, the Yellow Army scored as many as 73 runs in the powerplay. Robin Uthappa was the destroyer in chief during this time. The veteran scored 50 runs off 27 balls with the help of eight fours and one six.

Uthappa got out to Bishnoi LBW in the eighth over of the CSK innings. The on-field umpire didn’t give the batter out, but the leg-spinner used the DRS referral to good effect. Bishnoi gave away only five runs in his first over. Moeen Ali also made a comeback into the playing eleven in place of Devon Conway.
