Rashid Khan is generally for his wily leg-breaks and googlies with which he has foxed the best of batters around the globe. The youngster has accumulated plenty of records with his wrist-spin and is among the most sought-after players in domestic T20 leagues around the world. But the fact he is more than a handy batter can’t be denied by any stretch of the imagination.
The Nangarhar-born cricketer mostly bats in the middle order and chips in with handy runs. The 23-year-old also knows how to play the helicopter shot with a lot of precision. Recently, Khan seems to be working on his cover drive. He played one during Afghanistan’s second ODI against Bangladesh on Friday, February 25 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
Shoriful Islam bowled a good length ball outside the off-stump and Khan met the ball right underneath his eyes. The ball beat all the fielders and raced away to the cover boundary for a four. Later, Rashid asked Virat Kohli and Babar Azam if he played the cover drive in the right technique.

Rashid took to Twitter and wrote, “Getting batter. Cover driver Any thoughts @imVkohli @babarazam258??” India’s Kohli and Pakistan’s Babar are known for playing the cover drive with grace and authority.

As far as Rashid is concerned, he had a decent day with the bat in hand on Friday, although the Afghans lost the match by 88 runs. He batted at No.8 and scored 29 runs off 26 balls with the help of three fours and one six. Rashid also flicked Mustafizur Rahman for a six before getting cleaned up by the same bowler.
The Young Turk had a reasonable day with the ball as he finished with figures of 10-0-54-1. Of late, Rashid also impressed while playing for the Lahore Qalandars in the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He was also one of their leading wicket-takers in the tournament.
In the meantime, Rashid has turned down the Qalandars’ request to play in the PSL final against Multan Sultans on Sunday, February 27. He will be staying for the Afghan team for their bilateral affairs against the Tigers.
