An incredible running catch from Will Young at deep mid-wicket became the talking point of the NZ v SA Test at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The day began with South Africa resisting the hosts through a defiant 78-run stand for the sixth wicket between Kyle Verreynne and Wiaan Mulder.
While Kyle Jamieson broke through to end that partnership before it furthered the lead for the Proteas, the damage had already been done with it setting the base for South Africa’s lead to soar past 300.
Marco Jansen, who had put up a solid fight with the bat in the first essay, once again stood up as he combined with Verreynne, who had already gone past his half-century. This time, while Jansen made only nine, he played out 41 balls before Will Young took an exceptional catch in the deep off Colin de Grandhomme’s bowling.

Playing the flick off his pads, Jansen hit the ball to deep mid-wicket and it seemed headed for a boundary until Will Young ran in and stuck his left arm out. The ball stuck to his hand even after he rolled over after a small tumble post taking the catch.
The incredible effort gained immediate attention on social media with fans hailing it as the catch of 2022.

Will Young has taken a ‘ripper’ on the midwicket boundary, one handed, sprinting and diving back towards the rope. Jansen gone for 9. 219/7.

Even with his back turned towards the boundary rope, Will Young did not lose control of the ball and held onto complete a stunning catch.
