West Indies limited-overs skipper Kieron Pollard was elated on Sunday (January 30) as his team finished with a 3-2 T20I series win over England. The Calypso Kings won the series-deciding T20I in Barbados by a healthy margin of 17 runs and that brought a wry smile on Pollard’s face.
Disappointed with his team’s recent performances, including a gut-wrenching Super 12 exit from the T20 World Cup 2021 and a home ODI series loss to Ireland, Pollard could afford to grin after his team went toe-to-toe over five matches against England and eventually came out triumphant.
To express his happiness and delight, Kieron Pollard chose a means of celebration that amusingly perhaps no other captain in the history of the game would’ve done so far.

Having completed the series win, Kieron Pollard went for the post-match presentation ceremony where broadcaster Mark Butcher was waiting to have a chat with him. But just as Butcher was about to ask his first question to the West Indies skipper, he began singing the ‘Solid As a famous Rock’ from renowned Jamaican musician Sizzla.
Pollard went near the standing mic and unleashed his own rendition of the song. “I say, they can’t keep a good man down. Always keep a smile when they want me to frown..”

The message was loud and clear, Pollard wanted to signal his team’s revival after a difficult couple of months where they lost the T20 World Cup badly and also slipped further in the ICC Super League.
The 3-2 series win over England shall definitely boost the morale of the West Indies as they rebuild towards the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year, eyeing their third major title in the shortest format of the game in October-November.
