WATCH: Jason Holder’s double hat-trick against England in T20I final

Jason Holder made history by becoming the fourth male bowler in T20I history to score a double hat-trick.

Ireland’s Curtis Canver was the last to achieve the feat, taking four out of four against the Netherlands at the 2021 T20 World Cup. Rasheed Khan against Ireland in 2019 and Lasis Maringa against New Zealand in 2019 are the only bowlers to achieve this rare feat.

Holder’s feat came in West Indies’ final victory over England in the fifth and final T20I of the series, which the hosts won 3-2. Needing 20 points to win the final game, Holder sent back Chris Jordan with a slower all-in before catching Sam Billings’ wicket with another slow ball.

He completed a hat-trick with Adil Rashid’s wicket and then went on to win four-quarters when Saqib Mahmood slammed one inside to the stump of the next.

The West Indies won 3-2, with Holder winning Player of the Game and Player of the Series. He completed five wickets in the series tiebreaker, becoming the fourth West Indian to achieve this feat in the T20Is. Before today, though, no West Indian bowler had scored a hat-trick in the T20Is.

Holders finished the series with 15 wickets, the most of any bowler, with an average of 9.60 on the ball. He also took four wickets in the first T20I that West Indies went on to win. The second-best bowler in the series was just eight wickets, highlighting Holder’s stellar performance in the series.

“There’s been a lot of hard work. One area I need to improve is my death bowling and change. I’m improving on the Nets and the captain has a lot of confidence in me. It’s helped my confidence a lot. People are seeing What I can do and give me responsibility. I feel good about my role and I pass the perimeter noise. Every time I step on the court, it’s about what I can bring to the team,” Holder said in the game. He won the Player of the Game and Player of the Series awards, said the post-awards ceremony.
