A wrist injury to Ruturaj Gaikwad ensured Ishan Kishan got a chance to open the batting with Rohit Sharma and he made it count in Lucknow with a brilliant onslaught on the Sri bowlers.

Ishan Kishan wouldn’t have started had Gaikwad been available with Rohit Sharma revealing at the toss that Gaikwad was in the scheme of things until he injured his wrists. Kishan anyway made the extra chance count on a pitch with true bounce and pace.

Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Kumara and Chamika Karunaratne sprayed around the new ball a bit and Kishan capitalised on it to go big.

The Mumbai Indians player, who was purchased back at a record fee of INR 15.25 crores, left his partner and Mumbai Indians and India skipper Rohit Sharma impressed with his brilliant onslaught on the Lankans.

The standout shot in his knock was the audacious pull shot for six he played off Chameera in the final over of the powerplay. Short and down the leg side, Kishan helped it on its way with a terrific pull shot that left the bowler stunned.

Kishan completed his half-century in 30 balls as the openers piled on Sri Lanka’s woes with a stand that went at nearly 10 runs per over.
