Ishan Kishan didn’t have the best of runs in the 2021 edition of the IPL. He scored just 241 runs at an average of 26.78 and those numbers were boosted by the last two games where he got brilliant half-centuries.
The left-hander didn’t open the batting for most part of the season and was even dropped midway through the season. However, he returned to the side in the final two games and got scores of 50 not out off 25 balls and 84 off 32 balls. Mumbai Indians (MI) broke the bank for him in the IPL auction of the 2022 season as they bagged the swashbuckling batter for a whopping sum of INR 15.25 crore.
And Kishan repaid the faith of the MI team management in the very first game for MI (against Delhi Capitals). He opened the batting alongside skipper Rohit Sharma and played second-fiddle in that opening stand of 67 which came off 8.2 overs. However, once Rohit departed, Kishan anchored the innings and took charge beautifully.
He was on 25 off 18 balls when MI lost Rohit and Kishan finished with an unbeaten 81 which helped MI get to a solid score of 177/7 in their 20 overs. He struck 11 fours and two sixes in his 48-ball stay at the crease and batted through the innings.

But there was one light-hearted incident that caught some attention. At the start of the 18th over, Kishan was batting on 59 and he went off-balance while looking to hit a Shardul Thakur over the offside. Thakur bowled a wide yorker and Kishan tried lofting it over extra cover. But he got a thick edge and was completely off-balance . The ball was stopped by Prithvi Shaw who stopped a boundary at short third-man.
