Watch: ‘IPL is not a platform for India’

Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gautam Gambhir has a very different take on the team’s captain Rahul, Kuala Lumpur When they talk about the commitment of Indian players to their teams when they play in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“If you think about playing for India and then start saying Lucknow gave me the platform to play for India then you are not being honest with the team. But if you play for Lucknow and deliver for Lucknow, in the end you will Ultimately playing for India,” Added the 40-year-old who led the Kolkata Knights (KKR) to titles in IPL 2012 and IPL 2014.

Gautam Gambhir against KL Rahul on Indian players ahead of IPL 2022

Gautam Gambhir’s remarks were in stark contrast to Rahul’s comments on the show, which was also attended by Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka.

Responding to a query from showrunner Boria Majumdar earlier, Rahul mentioned that he is delighted to be able to provide the team’s young player Ravi Bishnoi with a platform that will enable him to realize his dream of representing India.

But when Rahul said “It would be good if we (the team and the team) could be part of that journey (towards India) and support him (Bishnoy) as much as possible.”Gautam Gambhir made it clear that he does not see the IPL as a platform to audition for the Indian cap.

The former cricketer said he felt “dishonest” If a player wants to play the IPL for India for two months, then take action on the IPL franchise.

Mentor Gautam Gambhir, who appears to have a strong voice in Lucknow’s decision-making, has made it clear that he does not want his players to see this as an opportunity to impress national selectors. Instead, he wants them to believe this is a chance to win the IPL for the new Lucknow franchise.

“So probably in those two months, I don’t want any player to say or think that my job or my ultimate goal is to play for India,” He said. “Their ultimate goal for these two months is to win games for the team. If they hope to do that through their performances, they will end up playing for India.”
