Gautam Gambhir’s remarks were in stark contrast to Rahul’s comments on the show, which was also attended by Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka.

Mentor Gautam Gambhir, who appears to have a strong voice in Lucknow’s decision-making, has made it clear that he does not want his players to see this as an opportunity to impress national selectors. Instead, he wants them to believe this is a chance to win the IPL for the new Lucknow franchise.

“So probably in those two months, I don’t want any player to say or think that my job or my ultimate goal is to play for India,” He said. “Their ultimate goal for these two months is to win games for the team. If they hope to do that through their performances, they will end up playing for India.”
