David Willey took an incredible catch to dismiss Nitish Rana during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. Rana came to bat after Mohammed Siraj got the all-important wicket of Ajinkya Rahane, who came into the game after a match-winning knock against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Rana came out to bat with intent and had no intentions of dying wondering. In the very first ball he faced, the southpaw smashed fast bowler Akash Deep for a colossal six over the deep mid-wicket region. In the next ball, Rana couldn’ t fetch a run while trying to slash at a short delivery. But Akash Deep bowled a no-ball to give him a free hit.
Rana didn’t miss out on the free hit and fetched a four on the off-side. In the penultimate delivery of the over, the southpaw perished. Deep bowled a delivery in the 140 kph mark and Rana tried to collect another boundary. This time around, he failed to get proper timing and ended up skying the ball.
At first, it seemed as if the ball would land in between Shahbaz Ahmed and Willey. But the latter kept his cool and took the catch with relative ease. Willey made the catch look easy than it actually was. Rana, meanwhile, had to perish after scoring 10 runs off five balls.
Here’s the video of David Willey taking the magnificent catch
Willey bowled only two overs in his first spell and gave away only seven runs. He bowled in the powerplay and didn’t allow the KKR batters to get on top of him. Akash Deep, on the other hand, played a key part in the first half of the Knight Riders’ innings.
He gave away 35 runs in his first three overs, but got the two important wickets of Rana and Venkatesh Iyer. The left-handed Iyer hit a four to score 10 runs before the speedster accounted for his wicket. Deep also took a decent catch inside the circle to get rid of Sunil Narine and give Wanindu Hasaranga an important wicket.
