Cricket is an exciting sport. In different formats, excitement comes in different ways. After a long journey of the World Cup, teams are back to playing bilateral series. Similarly, Australia and Pakistan met in a Test series. The first test went in Australia’s favor. With that defeat, Pakistan’s hope to win a test match in Australian soil continued. After 1995, Pakistan never won a Test match in Australia.
Long Wait for Pakistan:
Pakistan’s win on Australian soil is still far. The last time they won a test match in Australia was in 1995. In the last match of a three-match test series, Pakistan registered their last test win in the third match. In that match, Pakistan was batting first, in the first innings, Ijaz Ahmed played a responsible knock of 137 runs in 332 balls. Ramiz Raja played a knock of 33 runs. Inzamam-ul-Haq scored 39 runs in 11 balls. They got all out in 299 runs. Australia struggled in their first innings. They got all out in 257 runs.
In the second innings, Inzamam-ul-Haq scored a half-century. Saleem Malik got dismissed in 45 runs in 154 balls. They put on a total of 204 runs on board. Even in the second innings, Australia struggled. Mark Taylor played a knock of 59 runs in 154 balls. Mark Waugh scored 34 runs in 46 balls. In a dominating way, Pakistan won the match by 74 runs.
Now, the wait of winning a Test match in Australia continued. In the last 28 years, the Test win against Australia on Australian soil remained untouched. When Pakistan last time won a Test match in Australia, Sachin Tendulkar had only 2483 Test runs, 3212 runs in ODIs, and only 12 international centuries.
Along with that, Murlitharan has only 111 international wickets. When Pakistan won the Test match in Australia, Ricky Ponting didn’t make his Test debut. Before 1995 Australia won only 1 World Cup. In that time Pakistan won a Test match in Australia.
The Wait Continues:
And the wait continued for Pakistan to win a Test match in Australia. On December 14, Australia and Pakistan met for the first Test match of the three-match Test series. In the beginning, Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. In the first innings, Australia had a great start. David Warner who is playing the last Test series of his career, played a knock of 164 runs in 211 balls. Mitchell Marsh played another beautiful knock of 90 runs in 107 balls. They put on a huge score of 487 runs on board.
Pakistan batters struggled in their first innings. Pakistani opener Imam-ul-Haq played a knock of 62 runs in 199 balls. Another opener, Abdulllah Shafique scored 42 runs in 121 balls. Aussie bowler Nathan Lyon picked up 3 wickets in 66 runs. Skipper Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc picked up 2 wickets each. Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head got one each.
In the second innings, Australia played well. Usman Khwaja played a knock of 90 runs in 190 balls. Steve Smith missed a half-century. Mitchell Marsh remained unbeaten on 63 runs. They declared the innings in 233/5. The second inning of Pakistan was a nightmare for them. They got all out in just 89 runs.
