Yash Dhull is making heads turn his way after an outstanding start to his first-class career for Delhi. The 19-year-old batter, who led India to U-19 World Cup glory in the Caribbean, has made the smoothest early transition to the senior domestic game.

Dhull struck twin centuries on his Ranji Trophy debut in Guwahati, making identical scores of 113 and 113 not out against Tamil Nadu in a first-round Elite Group H fixture.

While the young gun may have felt he missed out on converting one of his scores into a big daddy hundred, his centuries were enough to etch him in the record books. Yash Dhull is now only the third Indian batter to make a hundred in each innings on his Ranji Trophy debut.

Yash Dhull should be fast-tracked for India: Virat Kohli’s coach

Notable performances have followed high praise. Yash Dhull is now being seen as one of the bright young Indian talents, for whom the sky is the limit.

Delhi coach Rajkumar Sharma, who is the childhood coach of the great Virat Kohli, went to the extent of saying Dhull should be fast-tracked to the international arena like his other pupil.

“He is ready for the next level (India) game-wise. I would like to fast track him. When he spends time with senior players in the India setup, he will only become a better player,” Sharma told PTI.

“Yash has shown he can dominate in white ball cricket and at the same has the game to do well in the longer version.”

“It was a dream debut for him. We were under pressure early on day one and the way he dominated the likes of Sandeep Warrier was a sight. Tamil Nadu had us under pressure but his temperament stood out,” he added.

Yash Dhull has risen up the ranks through solid performances in the junior Indian domestic set-up. The right-hander made 229 runs from his four innings of the U-19 World Cup in the Caribbean, averaging 76.33 with a strike-rate of 85.44 . Dhull struck a critical hundred in the semi-final win over Australia in Antigua.

Beyond the runs, it is the youngster’s temperament that stood out in terms of the way he led the side and how smoothly overcame the Covid setback in the camp.

Performances at the youth World Cup also earned Dhull major recognition at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction in Bangalore. Registering with a base prize of INR 20 lakhs, he went for INR 50 lakhs to Delhi Capitals (DC) for the league’s upcoming edition.
