Updated After MI vs RR Match 42

It was a day dedicated to chases as both the games saw 200+ being chased down consecutively. In the first game, Punjab Kings breached the Chepauk fortress to chase down CSK’s total of 200. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals failed to defend a total of 212 runs against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. However, in a very surprising turn of events, the Orange Cap and The Purple Cap are now both honed by uncapped Indian players.

Tushar Deshpande: Expensive yet effective

Tushar Deshpande has continued to impress with his sheer pace and wicket-taking ability this season. Even though the right-arm pacer went for 49 runs in his latest outing against the Punjab Kings, he managed to pick up 3 important wickets PBKS skipper Sh ikhar dhawan , Liam Livingstone, and Jitesh Sharma. This performance has propelled Deshpande to the top of the Purple Cap, with 17 wickets in 9 games.

However, his only downside is his economy. More than half of the league has passed and Deshpande has still not been able to get his economy rate under control. The 27-year-old pacer has leaked runs in almost every game but has compensated for it with his wicket-taking ability. He would want to bring that economy down if he ever wishes to play for the Indian Team in the future. Arshdeep Singh has also moved up to the 2nd spot after today’s encounter.

A spin-friendly day

It was a good day for spinners Ravichandran AshwinRavindra Jadeja, and Piyush Chawla. All three spinners picked up 2 wickets each and moved up in the Purple Cap race. Ashwin moved from 9th place to 5th place. Chawla has moved up by 2 places and is now in 6th place, whereas as Jadeja moved up from 10th place to 7th place.

On the other hand, Yuzvendra Chahal had a rather disappointing day with the bowl as the leg spinner was smashed for 32 runs in his 3 overs and failed to pick up any wickets. As a result, he has dropped down to the 10th place and risks slipping out of the top 10 Purple Cap list if he does not improve.
