In the doubleheader today, Mumbai Indians continued their domination over a struggling Kolkata Knight Riders in the first game whereas Rajasthan Royals pulled off a magical run chase in the second one. After two intense games, the Purple Cap has seen quite a few changes in the order.

Chahal claims the top spot

The top spot of the Purple Cap has seen huge competition this season, with Yuzvendra ChahalMark Wood, and Rashid Khan juggling the cap among them. However, for now, the cap has gone back to Rajasthan Royals’ Yuzvendra Chahal, who picked up the wicket of Gujarat Titans’ skipper Hardik Pandya and ended up with figures of 1 for 36 in 4 overs. He has now amassed 11 wickets in 5 games and is tied with Mark Wood and Rashid Khan in the number of wickets. The only difference between the three is their economy rate, because of which Chahal sits at the top.

Shami bags Bowler of the Day

Gujarat Titans‘ Mohammed Shami was clearly the best bowler of the day as he bagged figures of 3 for 25 in 4 overs, which also included a maiden. More than the wickets, it was about the spell that Shami bowled. Bowling 3 overs straight in the powerplay , Shami generated an insane amount of movement with the new ball, making it nearly impossible for Rajasthan’s batters to play. Mohammed Shami has now climbed up to the 4th spot in the Purple Cap list, claiming 10 wickets in 5 games. We may soon see his snatching the Purple Cap from the top contenders.

Despite KKR losing against MI in today’s game, Varun Chakravarthy has found himself back in the Purple Cap race. With 7 wickets in 5 games, Chakravarthy is currently at the 8th spot in the list. Alzarri Joseph on the other hand had a rather nightmare of a game In his 3-over spell, he leaked 47 runs and didn’t pick up a single wicket. As a result, he has slipped from the 7th spot to the 9th spot in the Purple Cap list.
