The Delhi Capitals defeated the Gujarat Titans in the 44th match of the IPL 2023 by five runs, despite a rocky start where they lost five wickets early on. Aman Hakim Khan, Axar Patel, and Ripal Patel contributed to the team’s total of 130 for 8. The Titans also struggled early on, losing four wickets, but Hardik Pandya’s half-century kept them in the game.
Rahul Tewatia‘s impressive hat-trick of sixes in the 19th over almost secured the Titans’ victory, but Ishant Sharma’s final over sealed the win for the Capitals. Despite the victory, the Delhi Capitals remained in last place in the points table, while the Gujarat Titans maintained their position at the top. However, after tonight’s low-scoring thriller, the Orange Cap has not been affected at all.
A bad day for Orange Cap
Shubman Gill and David Warner were the two batters playing tonight’s game who are in the top 10 of the Orange Cap list. However, both the batters had a nightmare of an outing and got out cheaply, without making much contributions to their respective teams’ totals. DC won the toss and decided to bat first. Captain David Warner came out to open the innings alongside Phil Salt.
However, Warner was unlucky as he was run out in the second over by a brilliant throw from Rashid Khan. Warner’s innings lasted just 2 balls, and the left-hander could only score 2 runs off them. However, despite a disappointing outing, Warnet is still in the 7th spot with 308 runs in 9 games. He is currently Delhi’s highest run-scorer this season.
Shubman Gill‘s outing on the other hand was also no better. Coming in as an impact player, Gill failed to make much of an impact with his 6-run inning against the Delhi Capitals tonight. Gill was trying to play a cover drive when he was caught by Manish Pandey at the cover region. Despite the failure, Shubman Gill has somehow managed to hold down his 6th spot in the Orange Cap list. Gill now has 339 runs in 9 games at an average of 37.67.
