Morris said in the comments that Stephen didn’t know he was going to be drafted for the Scorchers’ debut.
As one of the BBL’s local player replacements who could represent multiple teams due to the Covid emergency, Brayden Stepien was originally part of the Melbourne Renegade bubble.
He played for the Melbourne Stars before testing positive for Covid-19 on January 2 and has now moved to the Scorchers.

Victorian right-hander Brayden Stepien, 24, has not played any A-level or first-class cricket in Australia. But made his T20 debut last summer through the BBL 2020-21, representing the Melbourne Renegades against the Sydney 76ers.
