This player will replace Beth Mooney at the Gujarat Giants camp

Gujarat Giants have finally named a replacement for their injured captain Beth Mooney. South African veteran Laura Wolvaardt has been roped in by the Giants to replace Mooney for the remainder of the tournament.

Mooney had hurt her knee in the first over of the second innings of the WPL opener. Mooney was trying to steal a quick run when she stopped in between and hurt her knee. She immediately took off from the field and was taken straight to the hospital. for scans. However, she did return for training in the Gujarrat camp yesterday, but whether she will be able to play again in the league or not still remains a mystery.

Meanwhile, the franchise has named Laura Wolvaardt as her replacement. Wolvaardt was in Pakistan to participate in the exhibition Women’s League matches organized by the PCB. She was released by her team Super Women, and her South African teammate Sune dimely Luus was named reher .

In an official statement released by the PCB, Woldvaardt said, “I want to thank the PCB for this opportunity to play in the Women’s League exhibition matches. It has been an incredible short journey, but I have loved the experience. The team has been amazing and I have felt so welcoming,”

She further added, “I wish both sides the best of luck with rest of the series. I am sure both sides will strive hard and they will do well and learn a lot from the experience they will get from the matches.”

Wolvaardt is a seasoned veteran and has appeared for South Africa in 53 T20 internationals. A right-handed opener, Laura has scored 1079 runs for her national side at an impressive average of 30.82. She was a part of the South African squad that recently made it into the finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup. To her bad luck, they were not able to win the World Cup.

Nonetheless, Laura Wolvaardt’s addition to the Gujarat team would definitely strengthen their roster. Gujarat are currently 4th on the points table, having lost 2 of their first 3 encounters. With Laura in their team, they would expect to turn their fate around and try to make it into the finals of the league.
