The Chennai Super Kings have been batting amazingly well in this tournament. While most of the teams go hammer and tonks since the start of an innings, there is a calmness to the CSK batting lineup even in this era of explosive T20 batting. Shivam Dube perfectly nullified the threat by the RCB spinners taking them to cleaners on a small ground like Chinnaswamy. Thus in the 8 overs which are often pivotal and match-decisive, the Chennai Super Kings scored 112 runs in the middle over phase. Dube, Moen, and Rayadu carry out the same role that Suresh Raina and Badrinath used to play in the past: maximize in the middle.
The last 5 overs, typically ended the CSK way. Chennai exploded at the end with 61 runs in the last 5 overs. Dhoni and Jadeja didn’t have much to do yesterday as Rayadu, and Moeen provided the finishing touches. If they fail, Chennai have the most bankable finishers in world cricket in Dhoni and Jadeja. Previously they had Bravo as well. With this style of play, Chennai plays it safe in the beginning, rotates the strike and finds the odd maximum in the middle overs, and goes into the ‘ultra-explosive’ mode at the death. With this strategy of keeping wickets in hand, they can recalculate the total and adjust their batting approach along with the need of the hour.
