Sunil Gavaskar, Aaron Finch discuss the possible captaincy candidates for CSK

MS Dhoni is most likely playing his last IPL this season. The wicketkeeper batter has left an indelible legacy on the franchise. The question still remains who will replace him as the skipper of the Chennai Super Kings?

Sunil Gavaskar, a former captain of India, is urging Chennai Super Kings to give Ravindra Jadeja another chance to take charge of the locker room. Notably, the star all-rounder was chosen to lead the CSK club in the IPL 2022, but the 34-year-old struggled to make an impression and lost his position mid -season. Later, MS Dhoni resumed control of the situation while Jadeja’s potential departure from CSK prior to the IPL 2023 was being reported by a number of media outlets.

That didn’t happen, though, as he is currently playing a crucial part for the four-time champions in the current campaign. Gavaskar added that although leading a team is never simple, Jadeja can be a great choice considering his background and skills. In order to keep Ruturaj Gaikwad prepared for becoming CSK’s captain in the future, he also suggested that he be named the team’s next vice captain.

Gavaskar said

“I would give Ravindra Jadeja another go. He could have not been at his best last year. Captaincy is not easy, he might have found it tough last time, now he is experienced, and now he has come back. I would give Ravi Jadeja another go at captaincy. I would have Ruturaj Gaikwad as vice-captain so that you are already building up for the future. Ravi Jadeja is 30 or 31 now, so you are building your line of succession,” Gavaskar said to Star Sports.

Even though Gavaskar currently favors Jadeja, former Australia captain Aaron Finch thinks that Ruturaj Gaikwad will make the ideal replacement for the current CSK captain since the opener had a sense of serenity.

“The calmness of Ruturaj Gaikwad, the way he goes about his game. But there is that calmness, that such a huge part of being a leader, being there for everybody else and not just for you. That’s a big part. I would want him,” Finch mentioned.
