Spirited Suyash receives a heap of praise from KKR coach Chandrakant Pandit

Kolkata Knight Riders scripted history yesterday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. 9 out of the 10 wickets of the Royal Challengers Bangalore fell to spinners. Sunil Narine took 2, Varun Chakravarty scalped 4 while a 19-year-old leg spinner Suyash Sharma took 3 wickets on his IPL debut.

Former India cricketer and current coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Chandrakant Pandit praised debutant spinner Suyash Sharma’s performance. Suyash was instrumental in KKR’s 81-run victory over RCB in the ninth game of the 2017 IPL on Thursday, April 6, at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. In his first IPL game, he had a significant impact, taking out Karn Sharma, Dinesh Karthik , and Anuj Rawat.

We’ve seen him at trial matches: Chandrakant Pandit on Suyash

Pandit claims that Suyash’s quickness in the air makes it challenging for batters to choose him. He added that the youngster had demonstrated a combative attitude throughout the game.

“We have seen him (Suyash) at trial matches. He is very quick in the air, and it’s very tough to pick him. It’s just the inexperience, but he showed a fighting attitude,” Pandit said.

The hitters were then recommended by the KKR coach for having the mindset to get a huge total. He claimed that although KKR first lost crucial wickets, they later set a massive 200+ target.

“It’s a good win. The boys have shown the character. Looking at the initial stage, having lost wickets, and coming back to get 200-plus. We just expected the pitch to help the spinners. But you require enough runs. Shardul and Rinku Singh (46 off 33) counter-attacked the opposition,” he added.

Suyash Sharma’s spirited nature

Suyash Sharma’s journey has been extremely difficult; his coach passed away from Cancer, his father was diagnosed with cancer, and Rahul Sanghvi, the Mumbai Indians’ talent scout, assisted with his father’s treatment while still attending MI trials.

With a win under their belt, Kolkata have regained momentum after a poor show in their last match. They will look to build upon this momentum and back on their spinners to deliver the goods during the home matches.
