Pakistan pace-sensation Shaheen Afridi on Friday (February 25) bagged two wickets on two successive deliveries without either of them counting in his bag.
The left-arm quick found himself at the wrong end of the equation due to the free-hit regulations, which give the batters immunity from being dismissed until run-out.
The incident came to light near the closing stages of Eliminator 2 in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022. Bowling the 17th over of the chase against Islamabad United, the Lahore Qalandars skipper for the night was left absolutely bemused following a no-ball.
Shaheen marginally overstepped for a delivery on which a miscued hit was taken in the deep. The next ball also saw an attempted big-hit getting hauled out, only to get discounted because it was a free hit.

The no-ball was on display on the fourth ball of the 17th over, where Shaheen Afridi was hit by United’s lower-order batter Hasan Ali towards the long-off region.
The miscued stroke from Hasan’s bat went comfortably in the hands of the fielder positioned there, but just as Shaheen & co were starting to celebrate, it was declared a no-ball by the officials.

As the ball went up in the air, Hasan exchanged strike with the more organised Asif Ali.
The no-ball was followed by a free-hit delivery and on that, Shaheen got the batter mistiming his attempted big-hit in the hands of the fielder despite bowling a full-toss.
While the earlier one went to the long-off region, this went to the right of him towards the long-on region. Asif’s failure to connect properly against a full-toss that got too big on him meant that the ball only ballooned at a comfortable height for the long-off fielder.
Harry Brook, who was positioned in the deep, immediately threw the ball back to Shaheen Afridi as he saw Asif and Hasan run across for a two. Shaheen grabbed the ball and nearly smashed it on the stumps in frustration seeing what had transpired.

In the end, however, Shaheen Afridi would’ve been mighty pleased with the way his team defended their modest score of 168/7 and secured their place in the PSL 2022 final.
The skipper led from the front, taking 2 for 32 off his 4 overs as Qalandars came out triumphant by 6 runs and booked the summit-clash with Multan Sultans on Sunday (February 27).
