Team India finally arrived in Durban, South Africa yesterday for a month-long tour set to be commenced within 2 days i.e. December 10. The tour will feature a 3-match T20I series first followed by a 3-match ODI series and then conclude with a 2-match Test Series. The T20I series will be led by South African Aiden Markram and India’s Suryakumar Yadav. Surya has been picked as the captain for the series following Hardik Pandya‘s prolonged injury and the way Surya has led the team in the recently concluded T20 matches against Australia was just commendable.
This time, the management has only included young and emerging talents in the T20I squad by resting senior players for the other series that will follow. Ahead of the white ball series, Sanjay Manjrekar put forward his predictions of the favourable duo of openers and praised India’s batting line up. He put light on the depth and talent of the batters by saying that it is difficult to line them up as all of them possess great potential.
Predicting the openers
On the Star Sports show, Sanjay Manjrekar opined that the likely duo of the openers should be Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad, following Shubman Gill at No.3. This starting order will be perfect for team India as they commence their first series of the tour. The 58-year old asserted “Will India think of disturbing this opening combination of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal? However, Shubman Gill has that track record. My compromise would be Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad to continue and Shubman Gill at No. 3.”
The Openers Show
Speaking about Jaiswal and Gaikwad, the two batsmen were undoubtedly at their best in the recently concluded T20I series against Australia in which India emerged victorious by a streak of 4-1. Ruturaj Gaikwad emerged as the highest scorer after having smashed 223 runs against Australia. Shubman Gill who was rested in that series will return for the white ball series against theProteas so it will be rather challenging for the management to see their accommodations.
