Former Sri Lanka cricketer Russell Arnold reckoned that the Team India players are being able to express themselves under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. The 34-year-old Sharma have had a stupendous time in the last three months after taking over as India’s full-time T20I skipper. After, he led the Men in Blue to a series win against New Zealand.

Earlier this month, India won their three-match T20I series against the West Indies 3-0. Subsequently, they became the ICC’s no.1 ranked T20I team after a gap of six years. Rohit’s own form with the bat has also been stupendous as he has conjured praises from his teammates, including Suryakumar Yadav.

On Thursday, February 24, Sharma led India to a 62-run win over Sri Lanka in the opening T20 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Rohit scored 44 runs off 32 balls with the help of two fours and one six before Lahiru Kumara dismissed him.

Arnold lauded Sharma for playing second-fiddle at a time when Ishan Kishan was firing on all cylinders. Kishan smashed 89 runs off 56 balls with the help of 10 fours and three sixes. The left-hander also got the Player of the Match award for his knock.

“A different voice is sometimes good for a team, that’s what India needed. I thought in that T20 World Cupthe pressure of expectations seemed to wear them down. Now that it’s over, all of them are able to express themselves. The captain himself, he generally leads from the front. We never felt he was scoring but he was scoring with a strike rate of 140-150, which is exceptional,” Arnold was quoted as saying.

“If someone can look so good and look so cool, he really doesn’t have to say much. Everyone will follow him. The depth is there in the Indian line-up and that will make Rohit’s life a lot easier,” he added .

Rohit also shared a 111-run stand for the opening wicket along with Kishan. Their partnership laid the platform for India to rack up a massive score of 199 on the board. Recently, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) also felicitated Sharma for becoming the skipper of the national team across formats.
