In the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League, Zimbabwean cricketer Sikandar Raza has failed to deliver with the bat in two consecutive matches. Rajasthan RoyalsRaza once again struggled to get going, and his hopes of making an impact were dashed when ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed him with a beautifully bowled delivery.
Ashwin spins magic
Raza, a talented allrounder from Zimbabwe, is making his debut in the Indian Premier League this year, playing for the Punjab Kings team. Known for his impressive spin bowling and reliable middle-order batting, Raza was acquired by Punjab Kings for his base price of Rs 50 lakh in the mini-auction held last December.
Ravichandran Ashwin had a slow start in the game, remaining wicketless and conceding 19 runs in his initial three overs. However, the Rajasthan Royals captain, Sanju Samson, reintroduced him into the attack to bowl the 17th over, which proved to be a wise decision. Ashwin justified the captain’s trust in him by dismissing Zimbabwean batsman, Raza, on the very first ball of the over.
Ashwin’s wily bowling skills came to the fore as he used his deceptive carrom ball, which drifted in with the angle and then went away to outfox Raza. The delivery drew Raza forward, but the ball spun sharply past his outside edge, crashing into the stumps . Ashwin’s skillful bowling not only earned him a wicket but also helped the Rajasthan Royals regain control of the match.
Nonetheless, Punjab Kings ended their innings on 197 for 4 wickets in their designated 20 overs. Punjab’s captain Shikhar Dhawan led his team from the front and remained not out on 86. For Rajasthan Royals, Caribbean all-rounder Jason Holder shined with the ball as he picked up 2 wickets for 29 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin finished with figures of 1 for 25 from his 4 overs.
