In a surprising turn of events, the renowned Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is all set to make his appearance in the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2023 (TNPL) representing the Dindigul Dragons. This comes after his exclusion from India’s playing XI in the recent ICC World Test Championship 2023 final (WTC), which left fans and former cricketers questioning the team management’s decision.

Ashwin, who has been India’s premier spinner across formats for the past decade, holds the top spot in the ICC Test bowling rankings. As the leading wicket-taker for India in the WTC Cycle 2021-23, his absence in the final against Australia at The Oval, London, came as a shock to many. The disappointment of the loss intensified the discussions around the decision to leave out Ashwin.

However, he featured in only one game last season as the Dragons finished sixth in the tournament with just two wins in 202 2. In February 2023 , Ashwin was seen at Dindigul’s auction table, where he was picked alongside fellow cricketer Varun Chakravarthy.
Ashwin’s recent T20 stint with the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2023 showcased his versatility and skill, as he claimed an impressive tally of 14 wickets. Now, as he joins the Dindigul Dragons for the TNPL 2023, the team will be counting on his experience and expertise to make a significant impact .
The Dindigul Dragons, despite reaching the finals on two occasions in the past, are yet to clinch the TNPL title.
