Match 8 of the Indian Premier League between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings seems to be the most eventful game of the season so far. The match has seen so many incidents that will be talked about for years to come. One such incident in the game happened when veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin walked out to bat for Rajasthan.

Ashwin opens the batting

Rajasthan Royals made a surprising move during their IPL 2023 match against Punjab Kings in Guwahati when they sent their ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to open the batting alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. This move was made after Jos Buttler reportedly injured his finger during Punjab Kings’ innings, forcing him to sit out of the game.

Although this may seem like an unusual decision, it is not the first time that Ashwin has been sent to open the batting for a side in the IPL. In fact, the Chennai spinner had previously opened the batting for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the 2013 edition of the IPL.

Ashwin is known for his versatility as a cricketer and has shown time and again that he is capable of playing a variety of roles for his team. His ability to adapt to different situations and perform well in multiple roles has made him one of the most sought -after players in the IPL.

Buttler injuries finger

During the last over of the Punjab Kings’ innings, Jos Buttler sustained an injury while attempting to catch Shahrukh Khan’s low full toss hit towards the long on boundary. Despite Shahrukh’s lack of timing, Jos exhibited impressive agility by sprinting toward the boundary and sliding to take an outstanding catch. Unfortunately, in the process of completing the catch, Jos injured his finger, prompting him to immediately exit the field and seek medical attention in the dressing room. However, Buttler was immediately cleared for playing and took the guard at number 3 after Rajasthan’s opener Yashasvi Jaiswan departed.
